"Over the past two weeks, the creative retreat at Xenia allowed me to do things I desperately needed: one was rest and quiet, the other was a clean break into a new studio, leaving other projects behind and allowing the natural environment to bring up new ideas. In my time at Xenia, walking through the woods, I noticed my interactions with nature and with other people at the retreat – Deer, hares, and squirrels ran away from me, and due to natural anxiety, I ran away from anyone I didn’t know well. This led to a series of new paintings of hiding in nature, in the woods, based on my experiences in the retreat. Taking time off also allowed me to make more time-consuming work, in which I focused on weaving on a little frame loom, a child rescued by a large bird. Perhaps an imaginary mode of transport, inspired by myth."
