Testimonial
I have spent two and a half months at Xenia Creative Art Retreat, arriving directly from NYC in a busy moment in terms of my workload and a complex moment in my personal life.
Upon my arrival at Xenia, I was welcomed in the most personal, kind and generous way that immediately made me feel comfortable and was the beginning of an incredibly productive, creative and yet restful and restorative residency.
The residency is located on a beautiful farm surrounded by lush vegetation and very active animal life. I was lucky to be there right at the transition from late winter to early spring — I went on daily runs in the mornings through the woods, meadows and wildflower beds that
changed from bluebells to beautiful fragrant wild garlic, herds of deer and rabbits running around — Nature was a big part of my time there and it had a profound impact on me. I was at peace and my mind was clear and that in turn allowed me to have very joyful and productive work days in the studio. While at the residency, I was making a series of six new sculptures for a show at Mostyn, a contemporary art museum in Wales. The studio I was working in was very comfortable and the proximity between where I lived and worked was pretty much ideal and part of how productive the time there was. I was able to have long days in the studio and still take care of myself and cook and run or go on walks in nature. Truly, an unforgettable time.
To everyone here at the residency and on the farm who were so helpful and kind and friendly and so respectful of the nuances of my artistic and personal process while at Xenia — Bianca, Stuart and the kids, Jaye, Carsten, Lucy, Filipe — thank you so much for making me feel so
welcomed and supported, I am so grateful for the time I spent there, and the opportunity to get to know you all.
My warmest regards, Oren"

Inspiration
Oren Pinhassi’s installations examine the relationship between the human figure, nature and the built environment by conjuring evocative and erotic sites that intersect public and private exchange. His sculptures are frequently a combination of the superfluous and the ergonomic, erring towards the utopian. They mimic familiar objects, seeking to render visible the ways that humans build the world in their own image.
Oren lives and works in New York City.
