"I am happy to have had the opportunity to be at Xenia and thoroughly enjoyed the intimate experience of living in the same space as I was painting.
I loved the everyday routine of waking up to walk into my studio alongside the inspiring window views of Xenia’s green space and having so much freedom all day to work on my painting practice. Through this amount of time, the endless surrounding nature and all the people involved at Xenia who welcomed me with so much warmth and kindness, I felt settled to explore different areas of my work and left Xenia with a stronger sense of clarity about my work as a whole."

Education, Exhibitions, and Other Information
Nicola Gunnarsson is a painter based in London. “Odd Elegance”, a term coined by Gunnarsson’s favourite fashion designer Maryam Nassir Zadeh, is what best defines the nature of her paintings. A century of abstract painting is filtered through Nicola’s experience of today’s material and digital world. Love of clothing plays a key role in this experience (a love that Nicola sees to have been with her since she can remember) and has influenced a decision to paint on alternative materials such as denim, lace and mesh.
Gunnarsson graduated from the Royal Academy Schools in post-graduate Fine Art in 2022 and completed a BA in Fine Art/History of Art from Goldsmiths College in 2017.
This summer, Gunnarsson exhibited at Roland Ross in Margate in her solo exhibition titled Joe Le Taxi and participated in the group show The Artificial Silk Girl at Brunette Coleman in London.
