About
Jungwon Jay Hur is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in London, UK. She received her BA in Fine Art: Painting from Wimbledon College of Art in 2019 and her MFA in Fine Art: Painting from Slade School of Fine Art in 2022.
Jungwon Jay Hur’s artistic practice is an intricate exploration of both intercultural and personal narratives, weaving together a diverse range of influences that span art history, Korean and Western folk music, and 20th-century European cinema. She believes in the collaboration of
materials – from painting, printmaking and ceramics - and their inter-being within her practice. Often, the awakening of emotions and unfolding of tales are the starting points, and she carries these phenomena during the creation process - it helps her activate the passive, immaterial elements and give them a visual and tangible form. The sense of vulnerability, intimacy and beauty of triviality are central themes in her practice.
Recent exhibitions include ‘The
Future of Loneliness’, Guts Gallery, London (2024); ‘Our Teeth are Reefs’, Slug Town x Collective Ending, London (2024); ‘Flee as a bird to your mountain’, Hive Centre for Contemporary Art, Shanghai (2024); ‘Vessels’, Cabin, Berlin (2024); ‘Voyager I’, Hive CCA, Shanghai (2023); ‘A Woman from the Bird Egg’, Incubator (2023); ‘Contemporary Voices’, Plataforma Gallery, Barcelona (2022); ‘Why Don’t You Dance?’, ASC Gallery (2022); and ‘Hearth’, Lokal Gallery, Helsinki (2021).
