"My fortnight at Xenia was everything I needed in the middle of a stressful year. I focused solely on a single project, which is unusual for me - taking the time to work on a new series of drawings, using hardwood and branches from the farm to make marks on sandpaper. I learnt to slow down and get good at something. At midday I would go for a jog or a walk, finding deer, hares and red kites in the fields across the farm. I listened to Murakami books and wordless music. I have done my best to maintain this pace in my practice following my stay, developing the patience needed to hone a new craft. I’m still making my drawings and I’m so grateful for the time at Xenia for instilling this healthy rhythm.
Thank you to Bianca, Lucy, Filipe and the wider Xenia team for all their encouragement and support and making it all so easy."

About
Harry Grundy is a Margate, UK-based artist working in the natural world in a deeply unnatural time. He is interested in how the green touches the grey and how human behaviour stirs the two together. With a background in design, ideas are treated with rigorous honesty and crafted with a graphic eye. Centring his practice around rural and coastal British ecologies, Harry asks the viewer to look closely and critically at our relationship with this phenomenal world.
In September 2023, Harry presented his first public commissions for the Chester Contemporary in the UK. He completed a residency at Palazzo Monti in Brescia, Italy, in July 2023. Harry has created sculptural editions for Hi Noon Editions and Object Multiple, as well as a book of poems with Saltstung Press. Recently, he has shown at Alice Amati, Slugtown and Unit 1 Gallery and had a solo show at The Whitaker Museum in 2022. He has guest tutored at Kingston University and London College of Communication. Harry has written for Elephant Magazine, AIGA, and Creative Lives in Progress.
Harry graduated from Kingston School of Art in 2016 with first-class honours in graphic design and trained as a clown at Albert and Friends Circus School in 2007.
