"My time at Xenia was exactly what I needed. From the moment I got there I felt very welcomed into what is an amazing space, and an amazing place to retreat from commitments and everyday life to the peace and calm that Xenia amply provides. Bianca has been very generous in creating the retreat and that kind of generosity for artists to be able to enjoy the quality, comfort and ease of the studio and live-space is very rare. So I feel a great deal of gratitude to Bianca and all at Xenia who made me feel very welcome into it.

I particularly enjoyed the studio space and the flow from indoor to outdoor; to be surrounded by mature trees, plentiful insect and bird life, was very calming. I loved being able to walk straight out of the studio door and into nature and go on walks around the estate to come back to the studio refreshed. I felt a constant connection to the trees and landscape outside, and that regulated my nervous system and helped me to connect better with my work.

I found Xenia gave me time and head space to think differently about a show I was working towards and I enjoyed just having fun with my painting with no specific outcome, injecting a playfulness into it. It was so helpful to bring that back to my studio practice afterwards, leaving a very positive impact on my paintings in the long-run."

Amy Winstanley is an artist based in Glasgow. She has a MA from the Sandberg Instituut, Amsterdam (2017 - 2019) and a BA (Hons) in Sculpture from the Edinburgh College of Art (2001 - 2005).

Amy's paintings are a reflection of the continual flux of all things whilst the action of painting, and immediacy of paint, fosters a means to take ahold of, and explore, her ideas. She is fascinated with entanglement on all scales, the intertwining of human and nonhuman relationships, and reads into eco-philosophy, feminist theory, and indigenous thought. Whilst painting, thoughts merge from this research with intuitive mark making drawn from personal experience, emotion and memory. As a result the paintings reside between a suggestion of things and an un-doing of depiction in a fluid way.

Recent solo exhibitions include Homing, Ginsberg Gallery, Lima, Peru (2024), Soft Spot at A_Place Gallery, Glasgow (2024), Slim Glimpses at Cample Line, Dumfriesshire (2023) and Lost Hap at Margot Samel, New York (2023). Recent group exhibitions include Out of Earth, The Approach, London (2024), Opening at A_Place, Glasgow (2023) and Strangers at Rongwrong, Amsterdam (2022).
